The literature shows few information about reproductive biology of the genus Steindachnerina or even the histological description of their reproductive cells, characterizing them or even comparing their functional activities to other organs or systems. The main was to describe morphological aspects, characterize the oocytes and compare the development cycle of these fish, from two lakes in the amazon forest region.
The ovaries were fixed in alcoholic Bouin and transferred to 70% alcohol, embedded in historesin with 6µm-thick sections and applied to the techniques of Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) and Xylidine Ponceau (XP).
The results showed differences in relation to the maturation phase of the gonads in the same lake and between different lakes, however, in relation to the morphological aspects of the cells, similar characteristics were identified. The tests showed that females from the same lake and from different lakes did not show uniformity in the results in the applied techniques. The fish from Horta Lake showed a higher metabolism, which was demonstrated by the intensity of the staining of their cells. Protein synthesis occurred in the oocytes of females from both lakes, this was higher in Horta Lake. Synthesis of acidic and basic secretions occurred with more intensity in the cells of the animals from Horta Lake.
