Author Guidelines

1 AREAS AND CATEGORIES

The magazine classifies its articles into six major areas and three categories:

1.1 Areas:

                   I.       Exact and Earth Sciences

                  II.       Exact and Earth Sciences

                III.       Engineering

                IV.       Health Sciences

                 V.       Agriculture sciences

                VI.       Human sciences

 

1.2 Categories:

1.2.1 Original articles

The journal publishes original results of research conducted through the application of rigorous scientific methods, capable of replication and/or generalization, covering both quantitative and qualitative research approaches.

1.2.2 Review Articles

The journal publishes literature synthesis articles that will contribute to the knowledge of the six major areas, providing authors with the possibility to present a synthesis of knowledge already available on a relevant topic in the areas.

1.2.3 Case or Experience Reports:

The magazine publishes reports of experiences from teaching activities, university extension projects or assistance actions in health services. Qualitative or quantitative research will not be considered as experience reports.

 

2 PREPARATIONS OF MANUSCRIPTS

 

2.1 File Format

Manuscripts must be prepared in a Microsoft Word text editor. The files must have a DOC or DOCX extension and must not contain any identification in the properties. Do not send file in PDF format. Figures must be in JPG or TIFF formats, which must be included throughout the file text. The text file must be prepared in the following formats:

  1. Page size in A4 format, with 2.5 cm margins.
  2. The text must be typed with 1.5 spacing between lines, justified, using “Arial” font size 12 throughout the text, including references. Paragraph Tabulation should be 1.25 cm.
  3. The pages must be numbered in the lower right corner, starting from the “title page”. It is recommended not to exceed 20 pages, more than that will be charged an extra amount per page.
  4. Topics must be in capital letters, bold and unnumbered.
    Subtopics, which are optional, must be written in capital letters, unnumbered and offset by 1.25 cm. If there is subdivision in the subtopic move more 1.25 cm, that is, 2.50 cm in total.

 

2.2 Title Page

 The title page must contain, in this order:

  1. Manuscript Area and Category. Centralized.
  2. Full title centered with capital letters in Portuguese and English.
  3. Author information (names and institutions) should not be included in the document. These should only be filled in METADATA in the journal's system. The sequence of names in the article will follow what was included in the metadata.
  4. It is recommended that the ORCID of all authors be entered. If you don't have it and would like to get it, go to https://orcid.org/.

 

2.3 Summary and abstract page

On the abstract and abstract page, regardless of the original language of the article, it will be mandatory that the abstract be written in English to have greater visibility.

This must contain:

  1. The abstract must be written in the third person singular, in the active voice and limited to 250 words. It should contain the objective, methods, results, and conclusion of the work.
  2. It must be included 3 to 6 keywords separated by dots.

 

2.4 Introduction

The introduction must be succinct, explaining the objectives, the relevance of the study to the field of knowledge, without exaggerating the literature review. It may contain a theoretical foundation, serving as a basis to help understand the topics covered in the research.

 

2.5 Material and Methods

This part must contain information that enables the reader to carry out the same work, with the same methodology, without having to contact the authors of the work. The methods adopted must be aligned according to the objectives. The sample used must be clearly described. If the sample used involves humans or animals, it must be approved by the competent bodies. The devices used must bear the brand and manufacturer. Statistical methods, when used, should be referred to at the end of the methodology.

 

2.6 Results and Discussions

They can be written together or separately.

The results must be presented in a logical sequence compatible with the objectives, containing relevant data. Information may be presented in the form of text, tables, and figures. Units, quantities and equations, or formulas, must belong to the International System of Units (SI).

 Tables, equations, and figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, ...) in the sequence in which they appear and included as close as possible to where they were cited. Figures must have excellent quality (PNG format) to reduce or increase their dimensions. Tables and figures must be accompanied by their respective legends and sources. If there are acronyms and abbreviations, it will be necessary to explain their meaning.

In the discussion, the most important and original points of the study should be considered concisely. The comparison of results and relevant points with other studies should be encouraged. Whenever possible, include recommendations, points, and implications for future studies in the area.

 

2.7 Conclusion.

The conclusion must be based on the results found and linked to the study objectives, as well as its title. It should be supported by data or qualified statements consistent with the work. Do not quote references, tables, equations/formulas or figures in this section. The originality should be highlighted.

 

2.8 References

All references must be made using the Vancouver standard, previously installed in Word. It is also possible to use automatic reference systems such as Mendeley (https://www.mendeley.com/reference-management/reference-manager) and Zotero (https://www.zotero.org/download/).

 

 

 3 Conditions for submission

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify the submission's compliance with all the items listed below. Submissions that do not comply with the rules will be returned to the authors.

  1. The contribution is original and unpublished and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal.
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (DOC or DOCX).
  3. The URL (Uniform Resource Locator or Uniform Resource Locator) for references should be provided whenever possible.
  4. The text is in accordance with item 2.1 File format.
  5. The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in 2.8 References.

 

3.1 Ethical Aspects

In the publication of articles that bring results of research involving human beings and animals, the authors must inform, in the text, whether the research was approved by Organs competent bodies. The norms and ethical principles in force regarding experimentation must be respected.

 

3.2 Language

 The articles can be submitted in cultured form in one of the languages: Portuguese, Spanish or English. The journal offers the publication of articles in English at an additional cost to the authors.

 

3.3 Conflict of interests

 Authors must report any type of conflict of interest. The conflict of interest can be of a personal, commercial, political, academic, financial nature, provision of materials or supplies and equipment used in the study by the manufacturer. When submitting a manuscript, authors must forward a declaration of conflict of interest duly signed by the authors of the manuscript.

 

3.4 Acknowledgments

 At the end of the text it is possible to mention acknowledgments including institutions that somehow made it possible to carry out the research, or even people who collaborated in some way in the study or in the elaboration of the article. It is suggested that the authors keep in their power documentary proof that the people or institutions mentioned in the acknowledgments authorized the inclusion of their name.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Some changes may be made by editors in order to improve the quality of the article. The modified text will be sent to the authors who will have five days to respond.
