Abstract

human activities arising from processes such as urbanization, changes in land use, agriculture, livestock and the use of pesticides. In the Neotropical region, this problem has been more worrying, as it concentrates many endemic and rare species. This research is the result of a bibliographic survey in the ScienceDirect, Scopus, Scielo and BioOne databases for the period between 2001 and 2021, using only scientific articles. All bibliography found was analyzed regarding the existence of contents and information about the taxonomic group in Brazil, ecology and biomonitoring. In Brazil, 243 species of Gerromorpha, 10 of Leptodomorpha and 311 of Nepomorpha are described. The analysis showed that in the last twenty years, 116 species of Heteroptera were recorded distributed throughout the country, which represents approximately 20.09% of the total number of species described in Brazil. The infraorder Gerromorpha has a greater number of species sensitive to environmental impacts, while the infraorder Nepomorpha seems to be more distant from a pattern of response to impacts. The higher taxonomic resolution meets the needs of environmental monitoring and bioassessment, as long as they are pre-tested in regions where there are no previously performed studies and that they accept coarser conclusions. The eastern Amazon urgently needs research with Heteroptera to reduce the gaps in the Neotropical region.
