Abstract

Aiming at the impacts of plastic surgeries on the mental health of patients, highlighting, mainly, the recurrence of groups that already have mental disorders, the effects of the presence of mental disorders on surgical recovery, and the motivation of these patients in the search for aesthetic procedures, we seek to understanding the pre-existing tendency of people with mental disorders to seek these interventions and, finally, pointing out what measures should be taken to avoid such problems. The aim is to analyze mental and behavioral disorders among people who have undergone plastic surgery in the last 5 years. This is a systematic review study without meta-analysis designed in accordance with the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), based on the most robust and reliable literature bases in the broad area of knowledge in health sciences for these types of study, such as: National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Embase, LILACS and Web of Science, submitted for registration in PROSPERO by number 475827. 20 articles were systematically reviewed, emphasizing the causal relationship between the search for plastic surgery and the presence of mental disorders. Consequently, a correlation was found between aesthetic surgical interventions and psychological disorders, being more common among individuals who face challenges related to their self-image.
